A Tooth for an Eye

San Diego police sergeant Tom McKay comes home with his twin sons for a surprise birthday party and finds his wife brutally murdered. Connie is the first of the Report Card Murders—and the strangest serial case Tom has ever seen. A second killing brings a second coded report card, and when the forensics are finally compared, victim number one was killed by victim number two. With the investigation stalled and his own department against him, Tom recruits Mindy Masters, forensic consultant to the Los Angeles Police Department and the world’s best-known author on crime scene investigation. As the two follow a trail that leads back to an old high school annual, Mindy receives a report card of her own in the mail: walk away from the case, or become the next victim.
